I’m Phil, and this is my SubStack. 🥳

I’ve been writing code since the 1970s. This is (mostly) true. Punch cards were a real thing.

I became a full-time professional software developer in the early 1990s, working in Canada, America, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, the UK, Spain, Germany, and Japan - where I currently live in the rural splendor of Tohoku.

For a lot of that time, I have been a founder or co-founder, creating companies that have ranged from spectacular failures to spectacular successes.

Here I will mostly be focusing on Ruby on Rails news and tips. I have been working with Rails since 2004-ish and have spoken at development and entrepreneurship conferences around the world.

For the most part, I don’t care about ‘language obscurities’ and ‘computer science paradigms’. I am here to talk about Real Life Rails and setting you on the path to providing something for the customer.

Welcome and…enjoy!
